Union Bay Improvement District Candidate Ted Haraldson’s crackpot claims – is this a joke?

I’m starting to feel sorry for Ted.  Who goes around intentionally spreading false information right after being advised of the facts?

Is Ted capable of retaining new information?  How can he make these crazy claims about municipality status after he was corrected at the All Candidates Meeting just last week?  Is Ted capable of the simple act of checking to ensure what he is claiming is in fact true?

Ted starts out by saying we should all work together to make this community the best it can be and then jumps right into targeting six people who write letters stating their opinions.  News flash Ted – that’s democracy.  I hope I’m one of the six!  Who knew six people had so much power.

UBID is a joke and dysfunctional – you don’t have to believe me – just look at the videos of the meetings.

I can never understand the belief that there should be jobs available for the offspring of those who live here.  What kind of a control freak has already planned for their offspring’s future.  Maybe your children will opt to live somewhere else.  How many reading this were born and raised here?  It’s a ridiculous statement.  We need jobs but not because you have gone forth and multiplied.

Ted wrongly states:  “…joining the CVRD would mean our additional CEC credits (connection fees) created by our new development would NOT stay within our community.  Becoming a Municipality would mean we would keep them.”  Completely false!  The CEC’s are collected and would be retained for projects within Union Bay no matter who is governing us.  The funds for each area governed by the CVRD are kept within that area and to suggest anything different is just stupid.

Maybe his flyer went to print before he found out what he has been spewing about CEC funds is totally false.

Ted says we should all be informed even though he isn’t.

I love the first two sentences of the last paragraph.  Did you choke on those words, Ted?  “We must ask questions and demand answers”.  Didn’t Ted claim the Admin shouldn’t be required to answer questions from an elected trustee at a public meeting?  So we should demand answers but it’s okay if the board or the Admin refuses to answer?

This is how Ted remembers the incident of insubordination by the Admin at the Mar. 22, 2018 UBID meeting:

This is the reality.  A Trustee respectfully asking a question regarding financial statements – not demanding – look how he’s treated.  Notice the Chair busily looking through papers acting as though the Admin isn’t being insubordinate to an elected Trustee.  This Admin should be fired.

This board is dysfunctional because it is being run by three trustees with the assistance of the Admin.  This Elected Board is not being run by the rules governing Improvement Districts.  You can claim it’s not dysfunctional but all the evidence points to sleazy tactics behind the ratepayers backs.

Jim Elliott or Ted Haraldson for Union Bay Improvement District Trustee – Can we afford to dumb down this Board any more than it is?

Previous posts I’ve made including Ted Haraldson:  https://allthingsunionbay.com/?s=Ted+Haraldson

For anyone attending the UBID meetings or who watches the meeting videos, it’s pretty obvious Jim Elliott takes the position of Trustee seriously with knowledge of bylaws and procedures and believes he serves all landowners.  In all the dysfunction of this board, Jim is the stabalizing force and his experience and knowledge have served the community very well.

Jim Elliott is the only board member with the experience to represent the landowners best interests.  Even the green Admin admitted Jim was instrumental in the recent agreement with KIP – as Jim is the only one with experience.  Why even think about replacing someone who has displayed professionalism and a commitment to represent landowners with someone who each time he ran  spouted misinformation?

Ted is a big supporter of Municipality Status and has always claimed Union Bay would have all our problems solved by becoming a Municipality.  Just imagine the costs involved… we would be responsible for the roads, a whack of new bylaws and more staff to govern every aspect of our community.  How are we going to support creating an even larger government body when these guys claim they are too busy to answer correspondence?  Office space, office furniture, office staff, bylaw officers, inspectors…. and on and on.  Union Bay simply does not have the tax base to support a municipality.

Ted is parroting what KIP has always wanted.  This board is being directed by KIP.  Remember KIP ran a full page ad in 2006 supporting Municipality status.  This board had never brought up municipality status at any board meeting and yet here we are with this money pit threat on the horizon.

Ted never has much information but made claims without anything to support them.  Go to 44:54 in the audio and listen to this audio clip from Ted’s first run for trustee.

Ted claimed the pressure reducing valves required to control the pressure in the water lines, if the land purchase by UBID near Langley Lake, cost almost a half a million dollars each.  Wrong.  Jim Elliott provided the cost of 2 pvr’s would cost a total of $100,000.

Ted claimed the cost of power for the purchased property would be a half a million dollars.  Wrong AGAIN!  $150,000.

Ted claimed there’s nothing wrong with the purchased property but it is a swamp.  Isn’t this the piece of land the board now plans on selling?  Who’s going to buy a swamp?

Ted refers to Dan McGill as a hydraulic engineer.

Ted claims it will cost a half a million dollars to clear the land and put a building on it that’s not going to disappear.  Where did he get this information?

Ted Haraldson along with Lone Jednorog and Rick Bitten planned the disruption at the Oct. 2016 All Candidates Meeting.  Bitten then tried to make Jednorog a victim by apologizing for the “assault” and making himself out to be a pillar of the community and deflecting his involvement.

What kind of people think it’s okay for them to intentionally disrupt a meeting at the Community Club Hall because they don’t like what is being said?  The same ones who continue to deceive the community by having meetings without the full board being aware.  The same ones who can’t be honest and can’t be trusted.

Union Bay Improvement District Trustee Candidates Rick Bitten and Ted Haraldson Do Not Display Responsible Conduct

Check back tonight for the video of the meeting.

Responsible Conduct of Local Government Elected Officials

Click to access Response_Conduct_LGPaper%202017.pdf

I converted these few pages for those who don’t want to read the entire pdf file.

This excerpt from the last page in this post:

When issues related to responsible conduct negatively impact a local government, communities may also face additional challenges, including lower voter turnout due to voter apathy, businesses that may choose to settle in more stable communities, and the inability of a local government to hire and retain good staff. It is important to note that different types of behaviour can have different impacts on communities. For example, an issue that seems small can escalate into a larger issue that results in the chronic disruption of meetings and decision-making. These chronic disruptions can, in turn, lead to more pressure for written rules to be established, which may result in greater certainty but also in a less flexible basis for relations among local government elected officials, with staff and with the public.

‘Post-truth’ era:  Another pressure is the challenge of ensuring responsible conduct and providing good governance in a time that has been increasingly described as a ‘post-truth’ era “in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.

An environment that is characterized by unclear and shifting rules can result in issues related to responsible conduct, such as:

disrespectful use of social media;

disruptive meetings;

procedural bylaw violations; and

disrespectful behaviour towards fellow local government elected officials, staff, and member of the public.

Union Bay Improvement District Election – Police Required Due To Pro Kensington Island Properties Candidates Antics – Rick Bitten, Lone Jednorog and Ted Haraldson

Really have to give credit to Michael Briones of the Comox Valley Echo.  He is the only reporter in the valley who actually understands the complicated issues and is able to provide the facts accurately in his articles.  Unlike the Comox Valley Record who chooses to ignore the issues or just writes fluff pieces.

Kudos Michael!

Union Bay Trustee Candidate Ted Haraldson – More Misinformation With No Documents

ALL CANDIDATES MEETING TONIGHT AT THE UNION BAY COMMUNITY HALL, 7 – 9 PM

good-trustees-running-oct-22-2016

Ted didn’t have much information but made claims without anything to support them.  Go to 44:54 in the audio and listen.

Ted claimed the pressure reducing valves required to control the pressure in the water lines, if the land purchase by UBID near Langley Lake, cost almost a half a million dollars each.  NOTE;  JIM ELLIOTT PROVIDED COSTS AT THE ALL CANDIDATES MEETING OCT. 19, FOR 2 PRV’S – $100,000.  IS THAT CLOSE TO HALF A MILLION TED?

Ted claimed the cost of power for the purchased property would be a half a million dollars.

Ted claimed there’s nothing wrong with the purchased property but it is a swamp.

Ted refers to Dan McGill as a hydraulic engineer.

Ted claims it will cost a half a million dollars to clear the land and put a building on it that’s not going to disappear.

Listen to Cleve Goldswain and Jim Elliott respond to these claims immediately after Ted speaks.  Note Jim Elliott mentions the benefit of not relying on pumps for pressure as it is very expensive.

Where is Ted getting his information from?  Could it possibly be the VP Brian McMahon?

You just couldn’t make this shit up.  Why is this guy running for trustee – is comically uninformed.  Stop embarrassing yourself.
