We have been told so many falsehoods over sewer. In 2016 Kensington Island Properties never mentioned contributing to the proposed sewer at the time. The costs presented were to start billing less than 1000 homeowners the following January if it passed and there was no guarantee it would actually go ahead and if you paid and it didn’t proceed, tough luck.

Now we have been told it’s going to cost a lot less because we are saving by connecting into Courtenay and have received a $30 million dollar grant. We have been told KIP and KFN are kicking in $30 million towards phase 1a. That’s fine except KIP cannot be trusted to actually come through on a promise. The costs presented so far indicate there is not going to be much of a savings from the 2016 proposal.

Also, when the CVRD says landowners are only paying $5.8 million, that figure doesn’t include the approx. $7,000. per property which is a “Regional Sewer Capital Improvement Cost Charge”. Not sure why they don’t include that $7,000. in the total which would be $10,120,000. 460 X $22,000.00. If it’s $24,000.00 per lot then it’s $11 Million. That $7,000. is part of the sewage system and since we’re paying it, it should be acknowledged in the figures/pie chart. This makes it look like we are contributing half as though we are getting a deal.

$5.8 million doesn’t include $7,000. CICC per property. $5.8 million divided by 460 landowners = $12,608.69.
