Picture above – I photoshopped ex CEO of the Regional District Bob Long alongside his buddy, VP of KIP aka Union Bay Estates, Brian McMahon. The RD screwed Union Bay – told us Langley Lake wasn’t even on the table during hearings in March 2006 – turned around months later and suddenly the water source was going to be Langley Lake. Bob was a big talker… he’s long gone but the damage remains. See?

Pictures below are from Hart/Washer Creek in the last week and the bottom one is from Aug. of 2021, when we experienced the heat dome.

No one knows exactly how Langley Lake is fed – no studies. So all the planning is based on the past and hopenothing scientific. The people making these decisions and building these homes will probably be long gone, made their profits, retired with a good pension, with no thought to climate change, and the new people in those positions will say “It wasn’t them.” And it’s all those future landowners who are going to suffer years from now because right now we have to realize those elected and employed who we entrusted to care for the communities they represent by ensuring their health and growth are not doing it.

We owe it to the those next generations that will occupy this land to demand NOW that changes are made with those people in mind. The CVRD has a lot of good qualities and I am grateful that Union Bay has become a service area. BUT – their inaction regarding climate change, water supply and sources, building restrictions, etc. The people in the CVRD are the caregivers for communities, it’s not supposed to be run like a rigid business with only the budget in mind. The elected ones are the faces of the CVRD – they are the ones who convinced you to vote for them. They are failing and if those of us who live here now, don’t do something now – then we are greedy, selfish human beings.

The area below is where KIP has the pipe, testing the water flow in order to get approval to dump 1000 cubic metres of treated sewage daily Oct. through to May. To give you an idea of that amount – our water reservoir holds around 1725 cubic metres. Kip’s is DAILY 1000 cubic metres.

Kip doesn’t care about water – proof is those green strips/boulevards where there isn’t even a house. He’s watering grass because he can afford it. That’s the mentality we face. People like that don’t care about the quantity the use, because they can afford to waste it. How is that attitude ever going to change for water conservation – it won’t. It’s the greed and entitlement.
