We’ve been taken for fools. These politicians aren’t going to do squat. Not only are they allowing this filthy foreign owned ship breaking company to torch apart the asbestos laden Miller Freeman where it sits on bare soil on the beach because Deep Water Recovery doesn’t have the facilities, equipment or expertise, they plan on doing the same thing with the larger vessel, the Surveyor.

You’ll see lots of posts on Twitter by these politicians posting pictures of their smiling mugs, boasting about all the good work they’re doing, protecting the environment, planting trees, cleaning up rivers, all the while avoiding a problem they created.

They should start with Annette Bailey and the curious relationship with thug and robber Mark Jurisich of Deep Water Recovery. https://allthingsunionbay.com/2024/04/14/annette-bailey-rpbio-with-bc-govt-and-the-puzzling-relationship-with-mark-jurisich-of-deep-water-recovery-changing-the-purpose-of-the-lease-to-allow-ship-breaking-till-2038/

Annette Bailey made the decision to allow ship breaking to take place here until the year 2038, believing there was no difference in a log sort (prior to DWR) and ship breaking. There needs to be an inquiry into her actions. To expect everyone to accept this as an error than can’t be remedied is believing we are all brain dead.

Annette Bailey is the contact person for information, complaints, etc., regarding Deep Water Recovery. Hello – Fox – Henhouse. JFC.

The biggest issue is that the applicant circumvented the process by making the lease an amendment vs an new application.     New applications should go to community consultation,  they got around this by calling this lease an amendment.    EVEN though there was a change in purpose.

The two vessels the Canadian Coast Guard allowed to be towed to Union Bay by Deep Water Recovery. The asbestos laden Miller Freeman currently beached on the left being torched apart on bare soil. The Surveyor, much larger, will also be torched apart the same way with the full support of the Provincial and Federal governments of Canada, as the CCG states they can’t be moved.

C’mon. Annette Bailey received in writing from Jurisich that the operation was solely dedicated to the dismantling and recycling of vessels and she thought: Yup, no difference from a log sort.

I have to ask, how much time did Annette Bailey spend researching dismantling and recycling vessels before arriving at her conclusion. There is no justification for what transpired. Either it was incompetence or something stinky.

To the best of my knowledge, we are the only company with such a facility whose operation is solely dedicated to the dismantling and recycling of vessels and barges.” Mark Jurisich Sept. 25, 2020.
