We shouldn’t forget about the workers. Ship breaking poses significant risks to workers, leading to common injuries such as respiratory problems due to exposure to hazardous substances. This industry is highly polluting, releasing carcinogens and toxic substances into the environment. The human costs of ship breaking include accidents where heavy steel beams and plates can fall and crush workers, resulting in injuries and fatalities.

This video is good to see.
I’m so surprised this is allowed. Unregulated ship-breaking operations can have detrimental effects on the environment, particularly in areas like Baynes Sound, BC. These activities lead to the release of high concentrations of pollutants such as copper, iron, zinc, and cadmium into the surrounding ecosystem. Irresponsible ship recycling has been linked to various forms of pollution, including land, water, and air pollution from oil residues and lead.
Recently, Deep Water Recovery in Union Bay was ordered to cease its polluting activities that were allowing toxic effluent to flow into Baynes Sound and the marine environment. The consequences of unregulated ship breaking can include carcinogenic air pollution, loss of marine biodiversity, and soil contamination. It is crucial to address and regulate such activities to protect the environment and marine life in areas like Baynes Sound.
Oops, I forgot. They are a ship repair company. lol
