So Daniel has had almost a week to prepare for what he knew was coming and today he posted on the Union Bay Bulletin Board that the CVRD is still working with the developer. Is it any wonder the stink just doesn’t go away when an elected official, in spite of court documents, insists the sewer project is still being worked on with a sleazy developer (Union Bay Estates aka Kensington Island Properties). There is no bottom. Still insisting on doing business with a company that has never honoured an agreement to conclusion since 2006.

First of all, Arbour needs to tell the community the name of the person representing the Developer as no one knows who actually owns the development lands anymore. EDIT: correction – I’ve been advised the Directors are: Brian McMahon, Zhao Jian Hua and MO YEUNG CHING https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/mo-yeung-michael-ching-vancouver-developer-accused-of-embezzlement-in-china-1.3058215

I call bullshit on Arbour’s promises of keeping the electorate informed. Instead, the sleazy developer is protected. The sewage project is for the benefit of developers to be funded by existing residents. Stinks.

EDIT Aug. 16, 2024. Adding a later comment from Arbour – might be sinking in.

I understand the concerns you express regarding building permits now, but KIP aka UBE wasn’t held up due to the problems you highlighted. KIP never proceeded by choice over the years. Was given the green light over and over and yet never followed through at any stage. Started in 2011 with an agreement in 2011 with UBID WIA agreement KIP allowed to expire, then spent until Dec. 2016, trying to force UBID to give him an extension on the expired agreement. Lied claiming he was unable to proceed due to coal hill remediation. It’s been one lie after another.

It seems that the developer has either run out of funds or has given up. It doesn’t take 20 years to do a subdivision. We have a housing crisis because of the endless red tape and endless politics. Projects are cancelled all the time due to either mental exhaustion or financial exhaustion. Building permits in the Regional can easily take a year to 3 years, imagine a subdivision. We have a housing crisis and housing starts are down in 2024. The solution is to let it get worse and worse until people have had enough ..

Sorry. I agree.

I think you misinterpret my comment. I think this has been a 20 year sham, and has divided UBay unnecessarily because of false promises from the developer that many people wanted to believe. I am hoping for the best possible outcomes for all residents of UBay.

I hope not. At what point can we just get on with projects that have been stalled for years by the many phrases you employ in your comments? “…it may resume, if and when the assets are sold.” and “…possible that the current owners “re-organize” under a new legal entity.” You want us to start waiting all over again? This is just crazy. Anything to do with this developer is suspect. How is that not evident? What’s the track record to base the hope you express towards KIP aka UBE?

I am no fanboy or Director Arbour, but I do know his communications are informed by CVRD executives and their lawyers. They need to be careful so as not to fetter any biases publicly. They will continue working with the current owner until the “process” requires them to stop, and it may resume if and when the assets are sold. It is even possible that the current owners “re-organize” under a new legal entity.
