Quite the operation. Video is very long as I just hung watching the process – interesting. https://nwar-rlen.tc.canada.ca/files-dossiers/2024-512118?GoCTemplateCulture=en-CA

Union Bay Coal Pile Remediation Project
Erosion protection installationErosion protection will be upgraded along the shoreline of Baynes Sound and the terminus of Hart Creek to address erosion of the coal pile slope. The existing slopes will be regraded and covered with rip rap or cobble depending on slope and aspect. A limited area of soil densification is also required in the shallow slope of the northeast corner of the site that extends into the intertidal zone, prior to placement of cobbles. Rip rap will be placed within approximately 3 m of the high water mark on the eastern shoreline of the site along Baynes Sound and the western shoreline of the site along Hart Creek. Cobble material will be placed up to approximately 7 m of the high water mark to connect onto the shallow beach face on the northern shoreline of the site along Baynes Sound. Anchored habitat logs associated with new sand dunes above the high water mark may extend up to 0.25 m below the high water mark along the existing spit near the terminus of Hart Creek.
What is soil densification?
Explanation: Compaction: It is the process in which the soil particles are forced into a denser state by mechanical means, thus decreasing the air voids and hence porosity also reduces. It is an instantaneous phenomenon. Commonly used equipment is rammer, roller, etc. Jan 28, 2024
