A landowner asked me to post this as Brian Calder is her father. The history of Point Roberts is interesting and is now left in the lurch and dying with the problems between Canada and the US.

We are all part of this man-made economic mess foisted upon here in Point Roberts, so let’s get to work solving it.

Check the record.

In March 2020 Point Roberts had a border lockdown and we said this won’t last long. Then 20 months of lockup and our economy gone. We were WRONG!

March 2025 the U S threatened a tariff war with Canada and we said, that’s just trump being trump all bluster and theatrics. It will soon blow over.

We were WRONG!

May 2025 Trump threatens Canadians sovereignty and says he will make Canada his 51st State. We say, he’s just blowing off again, it will not amount to anything.

We were WRONG!

Now we have the Canadian Prime Minister and Provincial Premiers saying publicly they are finished with the previous relationship with the USA. The 150 years of support, brotherhood and trust is over and finished beyond repair.

And we still don’t get it?

All States and towns, Provinces and cities, are vulnerable in this current transition.

Border towns and cities are more negatively affected than the others.

Point Roberts the most vulnerable of all.

So, are we doing anything at all to try and protect ourselves and soften the blow? NO!

Point Roberts historic dependency on Canada is far more important and impactful on us than any other place in North America experiences from a foreign neighbor.

Our water and electricity supply, firefighters, road access, economy, property taxes all dependent on Canada.

Over half our gross taxes in Point Roberts are derived from Canadians.

If we lose our Canadian support and supply, we do NOT have any alternative source of resources available to us.

So, what should we have been doing? We should have been in regular cross border dialogue and meetings with State, Provincial, Municipal and Regional levels for the past 50 years. We are not even doing that today in any meaningful way. Now we have serious economic adversity staring us in the face with no plan in sight. Folly.  Remember, without a healthy economy there is NO sustainability. Is Anybody Listening out there?
