The Board predicted the landowners would now end up paying all the costs of the needed infrastructure projects and the blame was publicly displayed in a letter to the editor by the UBID Board aimed at those who voted ‘No’ in the referendum to incorporate. The UBID Board along with KIP ensured the community was divided with misinformation. It remains to this day.
Well, that’s exactly what happened WITH THE development going ahead – didn’t make any difference to the costs being borne by the landowners – no benefit to the community – instead tearing the community apart intentionally misleading those who expected honest communication, providing only empty promises.
The UBID Board was a big cheerleader for KIP and had committees to answer questions while promoting a YES outcome for the referendum held in Oct. 2006, to become a Municipality. KIP was a big supporter and paid for a full page ad listing all the benefits KIP was offering and encouraging landowners to vote in favour of incorporation.
Another group formed asking the question “Why Now?”, they also had a website and distributed signage and information. The referendum was defeated by the NO votes.
Without the extra financial support that the development was going to bring to our community, we will now have to find alternative monies to develop these facilities…
If the referendum had been a YES, the same people running UBID at the time would have made up a council and Mayor. The same people who purchased the School Property without clear title and kept it from the landowners, wanted to build a $2 Million Fire Hall on that property that the Molstad Board had to launch law suits to get School District 73 to take the property back. That one sentence stands out now – “…leasing space will be limited to office use or community use only – no retail can be permitted due to the zoning.”
The sales pitch presented to the landowners before purchasing the school with no clear idea what they would do with it.
How about this one from Nov. 2006 Landowners Update – that states KIP offered to make land available and HELP FUND A NEW FIRE HALL. This statement was repeated over the years.
